This was a sole charge role, managing Meridian’s obligations to the New Zealand Electricity Market which involved offering energy produced from the company’s generation assets in real-time into the market while bidding as a purchaser to supply customers (retail/industrial) on contract. Role involved collection of oceanographic and other hydrodynamics data, post-processing, analysis and interpretation. Position included;• Interaction with such instruments such as Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers, Conductivity Temperature Depth Profilers and VHF GPS transmitting drogues. • This role involved extensive use of the mathematical package Matlab, including the loading of large amounts of field data, the construction of scripts, functions and GUIs to analyse and present physical data, along with the development of programs to be used as standard analytical packages within NIWA for use with scientific instrumentation.• Working environments included coastal regions, the outer EEZ and international waters, and Antarctica (McMurdo Sound- Near-Ice Boundary Layer Experiment). • Co-authoring commercial reports • Maintaining and administering NIWA’s internal Marine Physics data archive and intranet site • Processing of sea surface temperatures from NOAA satellites and sea surface height analysis using Topex-Poseidon data. • Significant sea-going component included.
