Software Engineer
My current role is working on a SaaS and is currently a step back from Laravel to focus on maintaining a legacy app built in CodeIgniter. The app powers a booking system primarily for sports events aimed towards children, so handling sensitive data of this nature is also required. We are due to start implementing a new microservices architecture shortly using Laravel for the backend, with a Vue.js frontend.
Founder & Head Of Content
Leeds Beer is one of the largest blogs and communities devoted to craft beer and real ale in Leeds and the surrouding areas.
Senior Developer
I jumped back into full-time employment after freelancing and joined Scolmore as a Senior Developer. During my time there I built a number of new modules for the internal ERP system known as Lara. This was primarily using Laravel and Livewire. Aside from that I also had to develop other internal tools as and when the business required.
Founder
Hartserver provides a wide range of affordable hosting solutions, from shared web hosting right up to dedicated server solutions, with everything in between. What started out as a hobby during college is now a fully-fledged profitable business serving hundreds of customers.
Freelance Full Stack Developer
I took some time away from continuous full-time employment to become fully self-employed as Freelance Web Developer & Designer. During this time, as well as working on projects for other people, I also managed to tackle some personal projects I'd been meaning to get around to for a while, including building a bespoke control panel and customer dashboard for Hartserver (my own web hosting business which I was running on my own since 2004). I also started learning Go, React Native and Laravel Livewire when free time allowed.
Full Stack Developer
OpenPlay was my first remote position. A company based in London who build software for London’s biggest leisure and gym provider. I primarily worked in Laravel, but also ventured into some of the lower-level integrations mainly around gym entry systems and integrations into third-party systems. The role also incorporated UI/UX work on the system itself as a secondary frontend role.
Php Developer
I worked on a number of projects in a larger, multi-disciplinary team. This introduced me to a wider range of skills, as I had to deal with various departments within the company including SEO, frontend and UX Design. I was involved with looking after a large client who install and operate street lamp posts in cities around the UK. I built the platform that tracks and reports half-hourly billing for this project, as well as working on their CMS in general which handles software updates and other general maintenance and reporting for their network. We handled the initial rollout of this for Leeds City Council. I also worked on a number of websites during my time at Parallax for clients including Roomzzz, Arriva, TCS, Leeds Bradford Airport and Merrion Centre. Even though I was within the backend team, I did manage to start learning Vue.js at a basic level.
Web Developer
For just under a year I was working in a small web team producing websites and mobile applications for various clients. In this role worked heavily on the Magento platform, which was a challenge to learn from scratch with no prior training. I also managed several WordPress websites on a daily basis, as well as maintaining the infrastructure those websites were hosted on. I also took over a mobile app project utilising Ionic framework which required me to build for both iOS and Android. I also returned to working with Laravel on an e-commerce website.
Web Developer
I was the very first employee at this small start-up, and was instrumental in building our dashboard CMS system known as AudioSpace for clients to manage their online services with us. I also built a PHP framework from scratch as the basis of building products on further day-to-day. The role also involved working on a number of products for clients, including Qantas and severalmajor websites based in Dubai.
Web Developer
This was my first web role, and whilst there I worked on a number of websites and online systems developed and maintained in-house, including e-commerce websites and specialist applications built to clients' specifications. I also had major involvement in creating the company’s initial web-based CMS and administration system. I also had experience with working on mobile applications, and learnt a number of useful skills including creating responsive websites. I started tolearn how to use Git for version control at Rejuvenate, which I picked up quickly. Other tasks included maintaining websites, bugfixing, database management including backing up important customer data, and also user support.
Intranet Support Analyst
In this role I had the responsibility of maintaining the company's Intranet system, as well as supporting staff members with a wide range of IT-related issues. I also learnt some basic Sharepoint skills.
