Commodity Derivative Sales and Marketing. Built Lloyds Bank's Financial Markets commodity derivatives and structuring capability aimed at providing a full commodity risk management offering to the Bank's Corporate client base, from Global Corporates to SME. Built a small but highly knowledgeable and skilled team of commodity market experts combining both a deep understanding of corporate commodity price risk and knowledge of the nature, behaviour and idiosyncrasies of different markets. Established a platform and delivery model to provide a full range of commodity derivatives to the Bank's clients, supporting the product offering with in-depth knowledge and experience of managing commodity price risk to assist our clients design and execute appropriate risk management strategies. Beyond the basics, I regularly provided clients with complete reviews of risk management strategy, leading to Board submissions for strategy approvals; advice of market characteristics and hedging implications entering new geographical markets; hedging models integrated into oil and gas project financial models, including analysis of tax implications in non-standard tax regimes, such as Norway.To establish a specialist business within the more traditional Financial Markets business required bringing in, developing and integrating a pricing and deal management platform to run alongside the Bank's established systems, including the development of credit risk, CVA and capital models and integration of regulatory reporting requirements. This required a very high level of "hands-on" involvement, far beyond the normal "oversight" level expected of a Front Office Business Head.In addition to providing commodity expertise directly to clients, the role involved on-going education and support of the Bank's Salesforce and support teams, and a key role in the evolution of the conduct and compliance agendas in commodities and wider Financial Markets.

Energy Derivative Sales and Marketing, focusing on the Bank's Energy Corporate sector: upstream project finance etc. Specializing in structured debt/derivative products enhancing client debt capacity and risk management.While business opportunities were severely compromised by the financial crisis and the prolonged take-over by BNP, I was able to implement my debt/hedging analytical tools to assist in the Bank's Oil & Gas financing activities. In one particular case this helped quantify a significant equity requirement in the refinancing of a major oil company.

Oil Derivatives Sales and Marketing.Established RBS's Commodity Derivative business, before integrating the business into the Financial Markets Division and expanding business to gas, base and precious metals, and freight from 2003.This involved establishing the initial set-up of an oil derivative offering to the Bank's corporate clients, including desiging and developing a pricing and deal management platform, as well as building a client franchise.In 2003, the business was transferred into Financial Markets, and expanded across asset classes with upgraded systems integrated into the full IT infrastructure. To enable this, I led the Bank's side in negotiations into a successful Marketing Joint Venture with Macquarie Bank, and the redesign of the product delivery model leveraging the Bank's wider derivative sales teams.

Physical products and derivatives trader for Shell UK trading. Latterly moved to STASCO (Shell International), on derivative products trading and risk management.Initially extended my refinery knowledge of oil products into the trading arena, trading gasoline, naphtha and distillates in the physical European markets.In 1995, moved to the derivatives desk with the prime responsibility of supporting Shell Commercial in their risk management offering to their wholesale clients. This introduced me to the client risk management arena, and I extended the scope of my established role training risk management to trading colleagues, to staff in Shell Commercial and directly to their clients. I also ran Shell UK's options trading.Latterly, Shell UK was integrated into Shell International, and I added a supervisory role of trading book mark-to-market management processes and systems to supporting the risk management of the derivative trading desk.

After two years as a plant technologist at Shell Haven refinery, moved to Refinery Planning and Scheduling, fulfilling the scheduling roles covering feedstock delivery, plant production, product blending and delivery.
