Andy is an international development specialist with 20 years of professional experience. 15 years of technical experience in economic development, built on 5 years in the private sector. He has a technical background as a market systems development specialist at the Vikāra Institute, World Vision Australia, Red Cross, Salvation Army and UNICEF. Andy has operated as technical lead on projects and contracted pieces, including leading small and large teams. Support has extended to contract management, acquisition, design, recruitment, implementation, and results measurement across these projects – working closely with core project teams in country and reporting back to donors, partners and investors for shared learning. More recently Andy has taken on progressively responsible roles in technical team and staff management, along with managing large complex multi country development programmes.Currently at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), Andy manages a suit of complex multi country economic development programmes along with providing strategic insights and advisory services within the ministry. As a Senior Adviser, Andy spearheads policy and strategy development, ministerial briefings and high level intergovernmental consultations. Andy moved into International Development in 2011 after having worked in the private sector in Melbourne and UK in his capacity in Marketing, Business Development and Entrepreneurship. He has a high degree of commercial acumen and is experienced corporate affairs, stakeholder engagement and government relations. He has developed advanced skills in providing coaching, training, oversight, technical support and strategic management to project teams and organisations all over the world. Andy’s background as a technical lead in development programming spans over 20 countries and includes funding from the world’s leading Market Systems Development and Market Based Programming donors including USAID, DFAT, MFAT, Sida and the EU.
