Senior Transportation Engineer And Engineering Practice Lead
Senior Transportation Engineer at the Victoria, BC office of a multidisciplinary firm working mainly in western Canada. Primary responsibilities are to manage transportation engineering projects from start to finish by both guiding and having the support of junior/technical staff, and to provide transportation engineering expertise to other members of the team in both advisory and support roles. Additional duties include: Design of modern roadway systems including: bicycle and pedestrian facilities, traffic signal timing/phasing (including for active modes), roundabouts, access and site layout, intersection design, and safety reviews for various situations (sightlines, access spacing, etc). Write technical reports on various topics, alone or in a team, including: TIA’s, master transportation plans, road and traffic operation assessments.Multimodal traffic modeling using Synchro, Vissim, and Vistro.Public outreach, open houses, speaking to local councils, and presentations at conferences. Projects of Note: BC Transit/City of Victoria Douglas Rapid Bus Project: Engineering lead for a project examining changing Douglas Street into a transit oriented street including converting a general purpose travel lane to a bus priority lane. Work included a series of meetings with the City and BC Transit staff to refine options, creation of reports and background materials, data analysis of transit and parking information, and detailed traffic modeling of the corridor. Traffic Operations Engineer
Traffic Operations Engineer for Oregon’s 2nd largest city. Eugene consistently ranks as one of the top-ten bicycling cities in the US, and has an extensive transit system including a nationally known BRT system. Management position responsible for all 265 traffic signals and ~11,000 streetlights including their operation, design, and maintenance. Supervisory duties included overseeing a team of 5 electricians and 2 analysts, and administering a $2.5million annual budget. Other duties included: cooperation with various entities including the DOT, City departments (Parks, Planning, etc), and local entities (University, neighborhood groups, citizens), coordinating on research projects with universities, contract development and management, public outreach, local media interviews, long-range planning for signal & streetlight systems, emergency management, and depositions/legal duties. Major Accomplishments: 13th Ave Bikeway: Oversaw signal design and on-going operation of a bi-directional cycle track running through the southern edge of the downtown core, linking a major student housing complex with the university. Project involved 9 traffic signals with bicycle specific signal heads/phasing, and featuring novel signal timing to accommodate all modes efficiently and safely. River Road Corridor Enhancements: Major corridor update, including the addition of protected/permissive signals to most intersections, new timing plans, pedestrian protection features (LPI and ped-protect), and an updated communication system. Tactical Urbanism Pilot Project: Jump-started the City’s Tactical Urbanism program by designing and implementing a traffic circle made of plastic and paint at an overly-large intersection.

Roadway designer working out of the Eugene satellite office of a regional firm. Primarily I worked in CAD programs both AutoCAD and MicroStation. Projects of note include: Corvallis-Albany Bikeway: Concept level design and budget for a multi-use path running from Corvallis, OR to Albany, OR. Final output was a roll map, detail drawings, and a proposed budget. Florence Streetscaping: A streetscape improvement along the US101 corridor in Florence, OR. Duties included; the design and drafting of ~50 ADA ramps, drainage profile updates, sheet creation, and general drafting duties. Roseburg Street Paving: Full plan set for a repaving and ADA ramp upgrade in Roseburg, OR. Tasks included creation and drafting of a full plan set, and site visits to assess ADA ramp compliance. OR126 Repaving: A corridor enhancement project involving repaving, drainage update, and ADA ramp updates. Duties included: ADA curb ramp design, sheet creation and drafting, and budget creation and upkeep.
