Extensive use of tunable RF circuits.• Guide software and FPGA developers to properly implement full system functionality after hardware is complete. • Interface directly with end customers to ensure that performance requirements are understood at the beginning of a project and that excellent radio systems are delivered at the end of a project.• Perform field testing at customer locations to validate prototype radio systems.• Develop signal processing algorithms that can be implemented by software and FPGA engineers.• Implemented a low noise block down converter that covered the range of 6 GHz to 26 GHz, with tunable preselection and a low phase noise PLL architecture.

Secured patent protection on key new technology inventions.• Demonstrated an FPGA-based, digital predistortion (DPD) system, with PA memory compensation, targeting a 4G OFDM transmitter at 4.9 GHz. Designed and implemented several highly-integrated transceiver boards comprising RF mixers, high speed ADC/DAC circuits, FPGAs, and high speed bus transceivers. Performed mixed-mode simulations of the entire communication path, from baseband to RF and back. Developed complex signal processing algorithms for implementation in the FPGA hardware; supervised an engineer developing the HDL programming for the real-time signal processing algorithms. Technology currently implemented in Motorola Networks CDMA and WiMax products.• Designed and implemented high-speed, low jitter, ECL interfaces to directly drive a custom-designed switchmode analog PA by a 3.5 Gbps sigma-delta bit stream – a new architecture to efficiently create modulated radio signals.• Performed IC design, layout/verification and evaluation of 3.5 GHz circuits in Nitronex and RFMD 0.5u GaN; extensive foundry involvement to realize leading-edge circuits such as switchmode PA/drivers, diff-amps, and logic circuits. Designed and implemented high-speed, low jitter, ECL interfaces to directly drive a custom-designed switchmode analog PA by a 3.5 Gbps sigma-delta bit stream – a new architecture to efficiently create modulated radio signals. • Designed and performed layout/verification of a 4 GHz CMOS switchmode PA in IBM 32nm SOI.

Microprocessor code written to control digital processing circuits.• Implemented RFID hardware using 125 kHz capacitively-coupled tags and readers for customer demonstrations; performed system integration and designed/implemented VHDL onto a Xilinx Spartan 3 platform. Developed a modular system for future trials.• Presented research results at meetings of the top engineer representatives of the company. Developed partnerships for matching technology needs with research capabilities.• Furthered Motorola's capabilities in multi-layer ceramic processing by developing an integrated multi-band PA for SDR applications. Designed components with extensive use of EM simulators.
