Every issue we carry a variety of technical articles looking at the newest developments in the flexo process, alongside news, opinion, industry reports and case studies, which provide an authentic representation of the flexo market.I've been writing about printing for more than 20 years now, although I'm a fairly recent inductee into the world of flexo printing and converting. I love hearing about businesses investing and adapting and being successful in the face of the evolving challenges the sector faces.My path to becoming a trade magazine editor began at school, when my English teacher, Mrs Hall, told my parents I could become a novelist if I carried on writing. So when I left school I worked in a bank for 10 years! At some point, we entered a bank football competition and, just for fun, I wrote some match reports for the people in the office, and lo and behold, a bright idea was born! I left the bank and went to study Multi-Media Journalism at Bournemouth Uni, but although I initially had visions of covering World Cups, Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues, it was to magazine writing that I was attracted by the time I graduated in 2000. I immediately got a job as a lowly reporter on a print industry magazine (long since folded). I well remember at one of the first print companies I went to visit, one of the guys there saying "once you're in the print industry, you never get out". A true sage...I've edited a number of industry magazines now: PrintMedia Management, very briefly the launch issue of The Print Business, Brand Management, Print & Paper Monthly, Cross Media, Digital Printer.And then I left the industry in 2017 - but only for a bit. I ran a pub for 16 months with my partner and our mini dachshund, Lincoln. Not a great move! If you're considering doing it yourself, my advice is think very carefully...After that I was freelancing, doing some B2B journalism and some PR copywriting, much of it still linked to print. Then in November 2022 came the call from Whitmar Publications and FlexoTech magazine, and the rest, as they say, is history.In the middle of all this, I also took Mrs Hall's advice and wrote two novels, available on Amazon: "Know Your Place" and "Natural Father". Mrs Hall has read them both! The "difficult" third book - a historical novel set during the English Civil War - is "in the pipeline".
