I manage the 24hr front-facing security and fire response, in addition, I am responsible for porterage, postal and transport maintenance and services. I have changed the security landscape to one described by Police Scotland as an example of how to best do unobtrusive security.I have produced policies that cover all aspects of my roles, providing risk assessments, compliance, and procedures that promote, protect, and encapsulate what is good about an adaptable and progressive operational portfolio. Communicating well has been important in my three careers and I maintain a strong ability to engage at all levels of the spectrum whether it be with our local community and police teams or with contractors, visitors, students, staff, and families. I have been innovative in seeking appropriate technology and web-based systems to make my teams efficient and class-leading in areas such as access control, postal services, CCTV, visitor and contractor and staffing management. I have managed capital projects including a significant change to a modern CCTV system and access control and have been pivotal in designing campus parking. I have trained my team and developed those with the potential to take on some supervisory roles whilst encouraging everyone to be the best they can, to be self-motivating and most importantly to work as a team where I believe in sharing good ideas. I hold good presenting skills and regularly present to IOSH Scotland groups on travel safety and to students on personal safety. I remain an experience and perceptive critical incident manager and exercise planner with a trained and natural ability to function well under pressure or during a crisis. I truly believe in resilience through reflective learning and review, briefing and influencing at all levels. I am the founder of Edinburgh school’s security forum and I have attended both City and local community resilience schemes.

Assigned as a close and personal protection officer to senior member of the British and visiting Foreign Royal Families I was selected and undertook one of the most demanding courses in policing to secure this sensitive and challenging post. This role demanded exceptional judgement and the ability to assess information and respond effectively, often in fast time to maintain the safety of British and visiting Foreign Royal Families. I managed the 24-hour close and personal protection of principals overseeing detailed planning of engagements and reviewing security aspects and programmes. This required the very highest levels of dynamic risk assessment to identify potential vulnerabilities. I worked closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders and partners, coordinating timetables, managing venue reconnaissance, and reviewing event plans to ensure compliance with security requirements. I was the protection coordinator and event planner for many state occasions and events. During deployments I would have responsibility to liaise with F&CO, Lord Lieutenancy, event hosts and organisers, venue managers, local police, and other senior stakeholders. I would identify points of vulnerability within the programme with regards to safety and put in place counter measures and contingency plans such as, emergency egress, on-site medical facilities and assessing local medical capabilities. This included sensitive national and high-risk overseas deployments as well as principal medical retrieval for state occasions. Within the main operational oversight role, I managed up to 100 staff deployed around the world which required oversight of complex and sensitive operations and deployments, often out of hours.I was the medical lead and as such became an instructor in Pre-Hospital Trauma able to liaise with medical practitioners. I was a subject matter expert (Instructor) and lecturer on the National Protection Officers Course.

Progressing through a range of roles in a variety of settings including specialist positions within Public Order, Covert Operations, Custody and Operational Team Management, Football Forward Intelligence, Drugs and Vice, Surveillance and Close and Personal Protection.Promotion introduced custody and response team management with a staff of over 40 in one of London’s busiest areas. Responding to domestic and management of critical incidents and completing operational investigations and reports to HM coroner.
