One of the largest impacts I’ve made is a mass standardization of our robotics fleet. From script/method version control to reducing the number of labware definitions down to match the number of labwares (i.e. one labware, one definition). I also spearheaded a software upgrade for our entire fleet which was an opportunity for me to dive into each process on each robot and clean them up. This was when I removed the 5-6 ways of plate scanning and converted it to 1 modular and dynamic version. Standardizing variable names and syncing up worktables so there less variation assay to assay, just to name a few imporvements. The biggest impact was creating a singular sync for the OEM parts and custom ones we had, meaning if I taught a robot on an OEM part, I could be confident the definition/vectors/extrapolations would be 1:1 for any custom part I put on the deck. From that and other projects I’ve actually been enjoying CAD projects a lot more. My team upgraded from just a 3D printer to also a laser cutter and CNC mill. Using these three, now we can really hone in on custom solutions which are vastly cheaper (and faster) to produce in house. Being in control of these solutions made me rethink how we design them, learning new ways to control a design from initial protoypes to optimizing manufacturing methods. There’s also been a number of challenges which has lead to my need to train teams we work closely with and provide them tools for their success, e.g. troubleshooting and targetted testing scripts. This has seriously reduced our variety of issues and the man-hours needed to find root causes; turn around time has been reduced significantly and upgrades now happen in a much faster timeline for future projects/products. On top of this there are also script upgrades, new robots to program, and new proceses to build for the ever expanding needs. Helping teams do proof of concept, early development, and system design is becoming a bigger role and one I'm enjoying a lot
