I completed an MA History of Art degree at University College London, United Kingdom, and a BA (Research) in History degree from Shiv Nadar University, India. My research is based in the fields of the History of Art and Museum Studies, with a focus on South Asia, and themes such as gender, race and colonialism. I am particularly interested in how art, and disciplines like History of Art can be made accessible while retaining their nuances, for example through strategies for engaging with museums, or by presenting academic material through non-textual mediums. In addition to this, personally, I am interested in the ways these field can inform the practice of the visual and performing arts.In my past research work, I have looked at themes such as Hindu nationalist and brahmanical imagery through prints in the nineteenth century onwards in India, the employment of photography by the colonial state across places and in the work of missionary societies specifically in southern India and East Africa, and the formation of museums in the nineteenth century onwards in southern India. I have engaged with the discourse around tradition and modernity in South Asian art and visual culture across many projects, and most recently in an examination of miniatures and neo-miniatures in South Asia in my Masters dissertation project. My study of art history is rooted in a focus on historical and social contexts, and more recently, a deep engagement with materials and making.
