Nurse Specialist in a Level III Trauma Emergency Department providing care and treatment to a wide variety of patients, to include urgent and non-urgent. Continuous observation and monitoring patients to prevent complications during their visit. Assists physicians during bedside procedures and perform oral and written orders per physicians. Recognize life threatening situations and acts to correct these per protocols. Start IV's, perform blood draws, check glucose readings, give medications as ordered (PO, IM, PR, IV), take vital signs, perform EKGs, insert and/or remove foley catheters, insert and/or remove gastric tubes, perform blood transfusions, administer oxygen, operate specialized medical equipment such as defibrillators, IV pumps, access and/or de-access implantable port access, Life Pack 15/Cardioversion/Pacing, assisting physician in insertion of chest tube placement and maintaining optimal levels of care,and assist in Trauma/Code Blue emergencies using BLS, ACLS, PALS standards. Charge Nurse duties include responsibility for all nursing operations within the emergency Department. Monitors and oversees staff performances, assign patient assignments according to staff skill levels, responsible for narcotic and medication accountability, coordinate with house supervisor, case managers, social workers, and physicians for continue care for patients after leaving our facility, and coordinate with nearby hospitals for patient transfers.

Charge/Staff Nurse Charge Nurse- Provide necessary education/instructions for patients well-being, delegate duties to appropriate health care workers, manage/assign bed arrangements for patients stay and care, supervise/coordinate 56 Med/Surg beds on 3rd floor and 26 Surg/Peds beds on 2nd floor. Registered Nurse- Provide high quality care for patients, assist physicians with procedures at bedside, start IV's, dressing changes, give medications as ordered (PO, IM, PR, IV), take vital signs, head to toe assessments, education teaching, assist in Code Blue emergencies, care for and remove central lines, set up and maintain feeding pumps for G-tube pts, maintain/remove JP drains, remove sutures, apply/remove wound vacs, triage patients in the Emergency Room and provide appropriate care. when needed coverage. Conscious Sedation Nurse- provide conscious sedation to patients in an outpatient setting for minor procedures. Obtained and maintained baseline vital signs and pain management. Provide education for patients at time of discharge. Preceptor- Supervise/Educate new nurses to the floors, go over policies and procedures for the facility, etc.
