FACTOR (the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings) is a public/private partnership that supports the production of sound recordings by Canadian musicians and helps Canadian music companies make recordings available to a wider public.Support is provided to Canadian recording artists, songwriters, artist managers, record labels, music publishers, distributors, and event producers through numerous programs. Whether an artist is looking to record a few tracks, a full length sound recording, market and promote an existing album, or showcase and tour at home or abroad, funding is available. FACTOR supports the infrastructure that must be in place in order for artists and music entrepreneurs to progress into the international arena. FACTOR maintains an office and staff in downtown Toronto, along with Regional Education Coordinators (RECs) located across Canada. We are governed by a Board of Directors with representatives from the radio broadcast and independent music sectors, with consultation from our National Advisory Board, comprised of representatives from the provincial and territorial music industry associations, the Canadian Independent Music Association, the Canadian Music Publishers Association, and the Music Managers Forum.

Founded in 1975, the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Ltd is a music licensing collective representing music rightsholders who range in size from large multinational music publishers to individual songwriters. Together, they own or administer the vast majority of songs recorded, sold and broadcast in Canada. On their behalf, CMRRA issues licences to individuals or organizations for the reproduction of songs on various media.Licensees pay royalties to CMRRA which we, in turn, distribute to our rightsholder clients. The royalty rates are determined pursuant to negotiated agreements or tariffs certified by the Copyright Board of Canada.

CSI is a joint venture of the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Ltd. (CMRRA) and the Society for Reproduction Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers in Canada (SODRAC). CSI licenses the reproduction rights in the joint repertoire of CMRRA and SODRAC to various music users, including radio stations and online music services.Together, CMRRA and SODRAC represent the vast majority of songwriters and music publishers whose songs are active in the Canadian market place. CSI’s role is to provide a convenient one-stop licensing shop to access a worldwide music repertoire for use in Canada.CSI was incorporated in 2002, initially as a vehicle to collect the royalties derived from CMRRA and SODRAC’s distinct Commercial Radio Tariffs. Since then, CSI has applied for a series of other tariffs certified by the Copyright Board of Canada, including the Online Music Services Tariff and the Multi-Channel Subscription Radio Services Tariff.
