More than liking numbers.Spanish is my first language and although I am fluent in both, Spanish and English, I remember that learning English was very difficult. One thing that didn’t change across both languages was the numbers and so, math became my favorite subject and where my interest in economics stems from. I am a student at DePaul University pursuing a M.S. in Economics and Policy Analysis. And while I do like numbers, it is more than that.As a first-generation Latina student, helping others and being a role model is important to me. Being surrounded by stereotypes and low expectations only makes me work harder. I do not shy away from challenges but rather face them head-on. I am working to be an example to my sisters so that they know they can do it too. I do so while respecting everyone, as respect is my number one principle. I know that my actions do not only impact my current family but future generations as well. I like numbers but, I want to do more than just obtain my college degree. I want the opportunity to learn new things, obtain different skills, and experience new things.
