Program Coordinator

**I returned to this Program Coordinator position in June 2019. The research grant for the entire QA division phased out from October 2021-June 2022.**At USC's Center for Child and Family Studies, part of the University of South Carolina's College of Social Work, we work to make certain that children and families who interface with the South Carolina child welfare system receive the most effective, individualized services possible to achieve positive, long-term outcomes. The QA division partners with SC DSS to identify strengths and areas needing improvement in SC foster care, family preservation, and community-based prevention-services cases. We gauge individual counties' compliance with federal and state guidelines to ensure that children are protected from abuse and neglect; that children are safely maintained in their homes whenever possible and appropriate; that children have permanency and stability in their living situations; that the continuity of family relationships and connections is preserved for children; that families have enhanced capacity to provide for their children's needs; and that children receive appropriate services to meet their individual educational, dental, physical health, behavioral health, and mental health needs. In addition to reviewing CPS cases for continuous quality improvement, I am also part of a small team that reviews OHAN (Out-of-Home Abuse/Neglect) investigations throughout the year (as part of the Michelle H. et al v. McMaster Final Settlement Agreement). In 2020, I was an active member of the Center's Organizational Resilience Committee, which promotes organizational identity and cohesion, and fosters organizational routines and traditions; this Committee was especially active and crucial to the Center during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jun 2019 - Nov 2021

Children'S Room Associate

Columbia, South Carolina

I planned and facilitated a variety of events and programs in the Children's Room (CR) at the Richland Library, to include family storytimes and art activities. I helped create and maintain book bundles of various topics and themes throughout the large Children's Room space, and I was the primary person responsible for assessing and addressing withdrawals within the CR collection. My favorite part of the position was matching children and families to beneficial and enjoyable books.

**As detailed above, I returned to this position in June 2019.**At USC's Center for Child and Family Studies, part of the University of South Carolina's College of Social Work, we work to make certain that children and families who interface with the South Carolina child welfare system receive the most effective, individualized services possible to achieve positive, long-term outcomes. In addition to reviewing CPS cases for continuous quality improvement, I was also part of a small team that reviews OHAN (Out-of-Home Abuse/Neglect) investigations throughout the year. I was involved in readiness training for upcoming QA reviews regarding APS (Adult Protective Services) investigations. I also served as Chairperson for the QA Time Study Committee, facilitator of the QA Action Book Club, and as a Well-Being QA resource for DSS as they develop their federal improvement plan.

Program Coordinator

Office Of Foster Care Review

South Carolina State House Complex

The mission of South Carolina Foster Care Review Board is to provide advocacy and accountability for the state's foster care system. During my employment with FCRB, I advocated directly for safety, well-being, and permanency for children in foster care. I identified and addressed systemic concerns, deficiencies, and barriers towards permanency in the SC counties I served. I facilitated reviews of children in foster care on a monthly basis and provide guidance to local Foster Care Review Board members, who in-turn provided a recommendation for each child reviewed to family court judges. Trainings, events, and meetings which I attended include Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training, DSS quarterly community partners' meetings,SC Heart Gallery adoption recruitment photo shoots, DSS Palmetto Power trainings, Permanency Roundtable training at the Children's Law Center, Child Victim web training through MUSC, Jaidon's Law training, FCRB annual and regional professional development trainings, "Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma" workshop, Richland CASA "I Have a Dream" child advocacy rally at the SC State House, and a DSS Independent Living graduation celebration. I also helped facilitate the Foster Care Review Board component of DSS Child Welfare Basic Training for new DSS employees.
