Recruited to the CDC to take the lead for vector control in Puerto Rico during the 2016 Zika crisis. Subsequently supported initiatives to set up the Puerto Rico Vector Control Unit, developing the strategy, organizational structure and staffing of the unit as Technical Director. Also providing technical support to crisis cooperative agreements in support of Hurricane recovery in Puerto Rico and the USVI following the devastating storms of 2017.

Greater Seattle Area

• The lead for vector control investments in Neglected Tropical Diseases.• Managed an investment portfolio of approximately US$25M. • Principally supported initiatives against visceral leishmaniasis in India and Human African Trypanosomiasis.• Led calls in two rounds of Grand Challenges Explorations for the design of vector control technologies to support the Foundations investments in novel, molecular biology based vector control tools.• From February 2016 was deployed to Puerto Rico at CDCs request to provide technical expertise and guidance for vector control in the context of the Zika emergency response.

Cayman Islands

• Providing scientific support to operational mosquito control through laboratory and field research • Responsible for setting up research laboratory including molecular suite • Planning ground and aerial operations; managing teams of up to 12 in the areas of Aedes aegypti surveillance (using GIS mapping), port disinsection, disease surveillance and testing • Managing projects budgets of up to US$75,000 • Characterization of insecticide resistance in Aedes aegypti and Aedes taeniorhynchus • Collaborating with aerial section on regulatory documentation and safety monitoring • Design of aircraft hangar pesticide store in line with safety codes and practices • Partnering with Oxitec Ltd. (UK) to evaluate Sterile Insect Technique against Aedes aegypti • Using strong planning and organizational skills, successfully managed multi-faceted project • Acted as liaison with large number of outside agencies, including the press • First author two publications in Nature Biotechnology • Departmental liaison with The Health Services Authority by sitting on the public health committee
