In 2019, I've been working on climate change and on the conceptual underpinnings of wellbeing. In 2018 I spent most of my timeleading the development of The Treasury's Living Standards Framework Dashboard, which went public in December 2018. Before that, my main project was building the Living Standards Analysis Model, which is a top-down stock-and-flow model that incorporates the trade-offs and synergies between different aspects of wellbeing (the 11 aspects described in the OECD's Better Life Index) and multiple household types. This model is currently at the prototype stage, and the only model of its type in the world (that I can find). I initiated this project and have done all the development work, ranging from technical aspects including designing the equations and writing the code, to social and communication aspects including explaining the model to others and generating interest in the project throughout Treasury. I also founded and ran the New Zealand Ministry of Modelling (see the LinkedIn group of the same name) as a community of practice for modellers working in the New Zealand public sector, and I mentor junior colleagues and work on various ad-hoc projects.Previously, I was the lead analyst for Taxwell - Treasury's microsimulation model of the New Zealand tax and welfare system. I also worked on a prototype DSGE model for Treasury, and designed processes for commissioning work for the 'Analytics and Insights' and 'Modelling and Research' teams.
