Dr Anjan Bhattacharya has worked in the field of Paediatrics, Neonatology and Developmental Paediatrics both in India and the UK for last 35 years, 14 years of that being in the UK. While working in London, he has developed special interest in Developmental Paediatrics. He was the Head of the Academics in Paediatric Department of Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata with an active DNB post graduate medical training curriculum in place till August, 2011. It is now called Apollo Multispecialty Hospital, Kolkata. He is an Examiner of the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (RCPCH), UK for MRCPCH, UK examination and DCH, UK examinations. He is also the course co-ordinator and the tutor of the Sydney Child Health Program [SCHP] for Sydney University, Australia at www.magga.org.au

He has skills in assessing children’s mental development using Griffiths tool for children under the mental age equivalent of 8 years and Bayleys Scale for Infants and Toddlers (III) under the age of 3½ years. He also has expertise in leading multidisciplinary assessment and management of children with complex disabilities. A part of this includes specific diagnostic assessment tools for children with Autism. He is trained in the Gold Standard diagnostic evaluation of such children with Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule [ADOS] (both versions) and Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised [ADI - R] technique.

The Child Development Centre of Apollo Gleneagles Hospital has become a reality with his sheer determination. This is a unique service development in Indian scenario and it is hoped that this service development will improve the Quality of Life (QoL) of a significant number of children with disabilities and difficulties, bringing Apollo Group of Hospitals’ motto of “Touching Lives” nearer to reality.He can also overview patients with other common behavioural problems including eating, feeding, sleeping, speech, excessive crying, attention and concentration difficulties. He often led a multi-professional team of Paediatric Tube Feeding team at Newham University Hospital in London and has efficiently managed children on long term Gastrostomy or Nasogastric Tube Feeding Regimes. He was the ‘Named Doctor’ for Children Looked After (Adoption & Fostering) for the London Borough of Newham between 2004-2005, in the UK

He is one of the 27 world expert participants (one of the two from his WHO region) who took part in the pioneering exercise on ICF Core Standard Setting for children at Vancouver. Pioneering Pediatric model was Cerebral Palsy. This was a WHO's international activity. He is acknowledged for his contribution in the pilot research which is available at the following link:http://jcn.sagepub.com/content/early/2013/02/21/0883073813475481Following this, he led the international multicentric international validation study involving two Universities of Pakistan (Aga Khan, Karachi & Children's Hospital, Lahore), one University of SriLanka (Kelanaya University, Colombo) and four Indian centre (NIMH, CDC AGH, Max Hospital, Delhi and ADAPTA, Mumbai) from CDC AGH. The validation involved WHO regoinsFindings were recently presented in Stockholm on 1st June, 2016. This pioneering validation is now being adopted by Argentina, Spain, Moldova and Thailand.
