About Ankit Mathur

Dr Ankit Mathur is an Optometry director of a Specsavers store. He has also worked as an Optometrist for Specsavers and Costco Wholesale in Australia. Prior to being in clinical optometry he was a research Fellow at the School of Optometry and Vision Science/ Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation at Queensland University of Technology. He worked as an Australian Post Doctoral Research Fellow (Industry) for 3 years at the same institute in June 2013. Dr Mathur graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Optometry (BS Optom) from Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry (L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences, India) with distinction and as the secnd best outgoing student in 2004. He later worked as an optometrist at L.V. Prasad Eye Institute (India) for a year and half.Dr Mathur joined the Opthalmic and Visual Optics Laboratory in the School of Optometry and IHBI at QUT as a PhD student. His PhD was funded by QUT Research Capacity Building Award and QUT Fee waiver scholarship. He completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof David Atchison. HIs thesis titled “Peripheral ocular monochromatic aberrations” investigated changes in peripheral aberrations due to accommodation (focusing), myopia (short-sightedness), ageing, and refractive interventions of orthokeratology, laser surgery and intraocular lens implantation.In 2009, along with Prof. David Atchison (QUT) and Mr. Saulius Varnas (Carl Zeiss Vision, Australia), was awarded Australian Research Council Linkage Grant on which he is currently working as a Post Doctoral Fellow.Dr Mathur’s research interests include peripheral optics of the eye and its relation to refractive error development, changes in optics of the eye due to diabetes and retinal shape in relation to myopia development.
