Mycelium is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to accelerate the circular economy and empower people with the necessary skills to pursue sustainability and self-reliance. • Design a sustainable food system vision for 2050 for Huntsville.• Teach online classes and host live workshops on food sustainability and the circular economy.• Write grants to raise funds for technological projects such as an automated garden plot for food insecure communities while collaborating with other nonprofits such as ENABLE Madison County.• Create an open source dataset for recyclable waste items and a Tensorflow model to identify aluminum cans, cardboard, PET, HDPE, and glass using a Raspberry Pi Camera.

• Scientific algorithm development for applications such as wildfire risk modeling, algal blooms monitoring, vegetation health analyses, fire weather forecasts, and biodiversity monitoring.• Combine raster datasets with vector data for analyzing various location based climate and biodiversity risk metrics.• Prototype geospatial tools and perform dataset validation on Google Earth Engine.• Use climate models such as CMIP6 for creating risk projections for short term and long term droughts as well as extreme temperatures.• Creating Google Earth Engine Apps to visualize climate and environmental risk insights.• Extract and map assets such as mines and assign ownership using text analysis, generative AI, and geospatial analysis.• Science communication and video creation.

As a community science fellow with AGU's Thriving Earth Exchange, I assisted a team from Oakland, California in developing a short summer outdoor education program focused on nature immersion. My primary responsibilities were to scope the project and ensure its completion. I assisted in creating program surveys, developing activities for nature immersion, and analyzing results of the program.

• Developed algorithms using Python to detect Earth science relevant features such as contrails on MODIS satellite imagery.• Co-created a geospatial dataset of floating marine debris and contributed to machine learning models to detect it on Planetscope satellite imagery.• Edit and correct Earth Science metadata of NASA satellite datasets on the Common Metadata Repository to improve access to open data.• Conducted literature reviews for machine learning in feature detection on satellite imagery.• Gathered metadata for NASA's airborne campaigns in the field of Earth Science.• Hosted a challenge on NASA's Space Apps Hackathon to automatically detect phenomena using satellite data.

In collaboration with NeedEnergy, this 8-week challenge focuses on increasing clean energy adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa with the aid of machine learning for predicting energy demand and potential solar energy production. I collaborated with over 30 data scientists and AI enthusiasts from all around the world. My tasks in this challenge include the following:• Collected datasets and sources for energy demand prediction using ML.• Conducted research on clean energy in Africa.• Contributed to developing ML models for predictive analytics.• Co-created a dashboard for forecasting solar energy production in Harare, Zimbabwe.• Co-created a PV sizing tool to optimize ROI on solar installations in Harare, Zimbabwe.

• Helped Professor Mike Newchurch in designing and teaching a 300 level college course on environmental pollution and climate change• Conducted over 75 stratospheric balloon launches for vertical profiling of ozone concentration at the Huntsville Ozonesonde Station.• Collected temperature, ozone and humidity data for NOAA with radiosondes attached to balloons and create plots showing variation in the above parameters with altitude.• Calibrated sensitive instruments such as ozone and carbon dioxide monitors to measure pollutant concentration in parts per billion.• Conducted research on new techniques to measure ozone with an ozone Lidar instrument.

• Conducted research using a MATLAB model using Bayesian statistical inference on finding the economic value of research on the Biological Carbon Pump. The value was calculated by factoring the social cost of carbon using the Excel-based DICE model. This work was acknowledged in a published paper.• Gave two research presentations on the project at Woods Hole.• Finished a research draft and presented a poster at the 2018 AGU Fall meeting.• Participated in an ocean sampling cruise to conduct measurements of temperature, salinity, and plankton concentrations.

• Mapped the extent of water hyacinth in Lake Victoria in Kenya with Landsat satellite imagery using ArcGIS with a team.• Conducted research on the effects of invasive water hyacinth in aquatic ecosystems and communities living near the coast.• Conducted an accuracy assessment of a Surface Aquatic Vegetation Detection model in ArcGIS.• Contributed to a technical paper which explained the research on water hyacinth and presented the project conclusions to Earth System Scientists at the Marshall Space Flight Center.
