I'm excited about using my skills and experience in new ways. I have over forty years of work experience in public health and environmental protection in the US and internationally. I have a BS in Biology with a microbiology minor, an MPH in Environmental Health and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), Environmental Health. In the course of my career, I have become increasingly interested in citizen science as I’ve learned so much from working with communities. Communities that have experienced disinvestment and neglect need to be engaged in ways that respect their knowledge and experiences. Citizen science can bring neglected community residents and their students the structures, tools, experiences and skills development that can strengthen communities work to reduce risks and improve quality of life and access to services. Respectful listening that acknowledges community experiences is essential in any process of helping a community and allies restore contaminated and potentially contaminated lands in ways that meet community needs.
