Ann is the Director of Animal Health at the Detroit Zoo, where for the past 26 years she has been leading a team to provide excellent health care to animals of all taxonomic groups. She has a special interest in large and small carnivores, great apes, hoof stock, penguins and amphibians. Current areas of research include utilization of stem cells for the treatment of arthritis and the use of implantable loop recorders as a means for understanding heart disease in great apes. During her time at the Detroit Zoo, she lead the design and construction of a new state-of-the-art veterinary hospital. She has been the chair of the Midwest Regional Zoo Vet group for over 25 years, and organizes two meetings each year to discuss topics related to zoo and wildlife medicine. She has an interest in providing veterinary support for conservation efforts, and has worked with several species including gentoo and rockhopper penguin, Grauer's gorilla, grey wolf, American marten, peregrine falcon, osprey, eastern fox snake, Blanding’s turtle and eastern massasauga.
