A freelance journalist based in Brooklyn, NY, Ann Farmer primarily writes about arts, pop culture, law and the legal profession. She spent a decade covering crime and local breaking news for The New York Times. A former television producer for Court TV, Ann wrote and produced Lock & Key, a program covering the criminal justice system. Her celebrity interviews for Emmy magazine include Lena Dunham, Claire Danes, Tina Fey, Michael J. Fox, Anthony Bourdain, Matt LeBlanc and others. Her features for the DGA Quarterly have spotlighted the directors of Orange is the New Black, The Good Wife, Saturday Night Live and other shows. For the American Bar Association, she’s written dozens of stories about the legal profession, including bias in the legal workplace, the impact of Hobby Lobby, and Hillary Clinton’s trek from lawyer to politician. Other publications she’s contributed to include Budget Travel, More, Yahoo! Internet Life, Christian Science Monitor, Dance Magazine, Village Voice and NPR’s All Things Considered. She enjoyed an early stint writing advertising copy and casting commercials for the Hispanic market. She began her working career on her feet, performing as a professional modern dancer in NYC and on tour.

She was a field producer for daytime trial programming during the OJ Simpson “Trial of the Century” period. She also wrote and produced video segments for the network’s newsmagazine show, “Verdicts & Justice,” for a look back on trials like Lorena Bobbitt's and William Kennedy Smith's.
