I have spent the past three decades actively involved in the community as a teacher, community activist, advocate for people with disabilities, board member, coach, and volunteer. As a teacher with over 30 years of experience, I have taught nearly every grade level, developed cutting edge language curriculum, and developed a variety of programs and initiatives to bring the classroom and students closer to the community. I have worked extensively with both domestic and international students, and have a special interest and experience in working with students with special needs. In over a decade as a board member at AHRC, I have served on the executive oversight committee, chaired the residential life committee, and am currently the first vice-president of the board. I lead a weekly class for students with disabilities, where I teach about diversity, different countries, and international cuisine. I coached a softball team for children with disabilities for 8 years. The overall mission of my community involvement has been to increase the interaction between people with disabilities and the communities in which they live.
