As part of the conservation team at VYCC, I am working to complete digital project scoping and landowner outreach for high-impact watershed projects in Vermont's Connecticut River Valley as identified by Audubon VT and the Connecticut River Conservancy. Through digital data management and correspondence with land managers, my responsibility is to increase public interest in the implementation of water quality improvement projects that will be completed by conservation crews in future years.

As a project lead in the food program at VYCC, I guide youth crews in preparing daily farm team lunches by integrating food utilization and nutrition education into their experience on the farm. Crew members are thus able to lean into agricultural work as well as food culture by creating a meal for their peers. I also coordinate food processing and preservation of surplus crops to create value-added products for the farm stand and future food programming.

As one of two Business and Operations interns for the Farm at Saint Michael's College, I helped consolidate crop prices, capture sales and market data for our CSA and self-serve farm stand, and introduce students in the Farm Program to the business and operation systems for the farm. After spending approximately 750 hours in the Farm Program over my years as an undergraduate, I've developed concrete skills in plant propagation and care, post-harvest handling, hoop house care, data collection, and peer-to-peer mentoring.

As a technical field intern, I assisted in carrying out the District's mission to promote the wise use and conservation of Vermont's natural resources. I worked alongside an agricultural specialist to take soil samples on agricultural land to assist farmers in the creation of their Nutrient Management Plans. As part of the District's LEAP program, I helped to implement native tree and shrub plantings and identified and catalogued additional potential residential tree planting sites across the Winooski watershed by interpreting aerial imagery. Throughout the internship, I assisted with bi-weekly water sampling of tile drains as part of a forthcoming state-wide study on the impacts of agricultural drainage systems.

In this position, my role was to help plan and execute daily farm tasks on a two acre market farm. Tasks typically included crop planning, integrated pest management, hand and mechanical bed preparation, transplanting, harvesting, food safety practices, and preparing and executing food-based community events. During this time I also specialized in tracking data for harvested, sold, and donated produce.

During the summer and fall of 2020, Saint Michael's College took part in a Continuous Energy Improvement program through Efficiency Vermont to identify ways to better measure energy usage and plan for the implementation of efficiency and conservation measures. As an intern, I focused primarily on behavioral changes among students that could support this work, culminating in three issues of an energy newsletter and a dorm-level energy saving competition among first-year students.
