My duties include but are not limited to: academic advising to prospective and incoming undergraduate Speech and Hearing Sciences students; coordinating the admissions processes for the bachelors of Speech and Hearing Sciences program; receiving and evaluating transcripts for course equivalency for transfer and post-baccalaureate, determination of prerequisites, and verification of departmental requirements; represents Medical Sciences by building relationships with local and state wide college and high school counselors; assisting with the preparation of statistical reports including but not limited to: recruitment, enrollment, and retention. Additional duties also include cross campus collaborations with other departments to plan and implement interprofessional events and programming for currently enrolled and prospective student populations. EA if a first-year experience program that includes hand-on, intensive advising approaches, access to academic support in the form of peer facilitated learning groups, skills based course work, cultural enrichment, financial workshops, and much more that aims at easing the transition to life at the university.In addition to leading out on EA recruitment, I have also overseen the creation and implementation of the Eastern Scholars Academy (ESA) since August 2011. ESA was an 11-day summer bridge program prepared students for the rigors of college life, especially in the areas of math and writing. In addition to academic preparation, social integration into the EWU community was also a high priority. I oversaw a staff of 25+ peer mentors that were intentionally trained to help their assigned groups of students to form and bond. The program was highly successful in this arena, and many of the participants have academic success and have persisted at EWU.ESA was not refunded for the 2014-2015 school year due to budget restrictions and cuts. Currently, I am working with the Pathways program, which is a first-year academic support program for conditional admit students. This student population is considered high risk as they tend to have lower high school GPAs and test scores when compared to their counterparts entering EWU. Programmatic elements of Pathways includes intensive academic advising, access to a peer coach, enrollment in a fall quarter transitional course, priority access to tutoring, and more. Show less
