Did you ever think that a decision you made your freshman year of high school could dramatically shape every decision you would make for your future? Going into Blackstone Valley Tech, I had no idea what shop I wanted or even what I would be interested in doing for the next four years. I was fortunate enough to get into my first-choice shop Multimedia Communications. Through my teachers in Multimedia and the art department, I was allowed to explore many of my current interests as an artist in both photography and graphic design. In the last four years, I was introduced to the fascinating world of photography and graphic design and taught to channel my creative thoughts to convey complex ideas within my work. In Multimedia, I was also given opportunities to work with actual clients; which gave me valuable insight regarding what a career within the communications field might look like. As my confidence as a photographer continued to grow, I decided to compete in photography in the SkillsUSA district competition where I was the gold medalist in 2020, and the silver medalist in 2021. Recently, I’ve started to work with clients outside of school as a freelance photographer, under the name Anna Elisabeth Photography. Some of the more notable jobs I’ve done are the WIC breastfeeding shoot, as well as a friend’s senior portraits. At the WIC shoot, I took breastfeeding portraits of eleven mothers with their infants. Since the shoot was over the summer, I spent approximately four hours per day editing while working full time. Therefore, giving me the ability to send the final portraits to the clients within two weeks of the photoshoot. I currently have an Instagram account dedicated to my freelance photography, while also working on a website to help build my client base. I’ve had several potential clients show interest in having me take their family portraits in the springtime, and a few other people interested in me taking their senior portraits next year. I will always appreciate the opportunities and experiences I’ve been able to take advantage of and learn from, thanks to BVT. I’ve been able to learn my strengths and weaknesses within my chosen field and hope that I only continue to grow as an artist. Through these opportunities, I commit to Montserrat College of Art where I plan to double major in both photography and graphic design.
