I conducted a year-long investigation into the impact of two water recycling centres on the freshwater macroinvertebrates of the River Avon. I organised and carried out the sampling regime, identified the samples to species-level, and analysed the results in relation to several chemo-physical water quality variables (using R and GIS). I also efficiently communicated the plans and results with key stakeholders, largely through regular meetings with the Environment Agency, environmental non-profits (Wessex Rivers Trust and Salmon & Trout Conservation), and local angling clubs. This also included a detailed final report, which is available upon request. I gained a valuable insight into the workings and regulation of the UK’s water industry through monthly wider team meetings and assisting other environmental projects, such as the development of a novel wetland technique for wastewater treatment and an investigation into the downstream effects of a hypereutrophic reservoir. I will be contributing to a scientific paper on the findings of this study in 2022, with the goal of publishing in the same year.
