Behaviour change specialist, climate change communicator, low-carbon transport advocate, author, flight-free adventurer.A former teacher, I spent a decade working on behaviour change projects in road transport, encouraging and enabling people to cycle instead of drive, mainly in the London area. My personal interest in low carbon transport means I have not been on an aeroplane since 2009, and I have never owned a car. I set up Flight Free UK in 2018 prompted by the IPCC '12 year' report and inspired by a Swedish campaign which challenged people to take a year off flying as a way to kick-start low-carbon travel habits. Flight Free UK brings my experience in behaviour change and communication together with my own personal passion for overland travel. I am keen to show that not flying doesn't mean not travelling, and in 2011 I cycled 4000 miles around the coast of Britain to demonstrate that the 'adventure of a lifetime' doesn't require a flight. I wrote a book about my travels: Eat, Sleep, Cycle. I have since written two further books about cycling and adventure.Through my work I hope to inspire people to live adventurous lives in a low-carbon way, and choose travel modes that don't harm the planet.
