Not many people get to do what they love right out of college. I was one of the lucky ones. I currently work as the Communications Director for University Advancement, raising money for my alma mater, Appalachian State University. My greatest love is writing proposals for grants and major gifts. Tailoring each proposal to the specific interests of donors, foundations, and corporations is a rewarding challenge that often reminds me of piecing together a puzzle. It's all about telling a story of how their interests fit our needs - and how we can work together to build a better community. Social media marketing, one day drives, press releases, annual reports, solicitations, acknowledgments, impact stories, web content, proposals, donor relations, annual giving, major gifts - my job encompasses many areas and tasks, teaching me to be both flexible and well-versed in the world of marketing and fundraising.
