My skills and expertise have contributed to the successful proposal, fund-raising and promotional writing for nonprofit organizations including: 1/99 a new nonprofit forming in the KC area to provide transitional services and housing to survivors of commercial sex trafficking; and Safe Families for Children (Minnesota and Kansas), a national nonprofit with more than 100 chapters across the U.S.; as well as working with The American Academy of Family Physicians, Girl Scouts of America of NE KS & NW MO, Emporia State University, Chamber Music Society of Kansas City, and the American Lung Association. My work activities also included reviewing and evaluating federal and state grant applications for accuracy and fit with RFP guidelines and recommending awards, and conducting continuing education seminars in proposal writing, basic budget development, logic models, and Grants 101.

This is possibly the most fun I've ever had at a job! I worked on the Zoo grounds, with immediate access to the plants and animals that inspired my work. FOTZ was working on a major fundraising campaign, and hired me for my expertise in database management, general writing ability, and especially grant writing. When the COVID shutdown occurred, the Zoo had to close, resulting in loss of the organization's primary income and elimination of my position, with the invitation to apply for future openings.

At Safehome, I administered all grant processes: researching private and government grant opportunities, grant writing activities, tracking program accomplishments and statistics, reporting outcomes, and coordinating grant-specific program activity. I was responsible for cultivating and managing grantor and donor relationships. Responsibilities also included developing budgets, tracking expenditures and regularly reporting financial activities to internal staff and the organization's grantors. My accomplishments included developing a grants database for tracking due dates, track progress and record outcomes. I served as a key member of the Safehome leadership team.

Newhouse was very special to me with their mission to serve survivors of domestic violence. My grant writing and administration, including researching funding sources resulted in funding increases on the local and national level by writing and submitting foundation and government grants. I also developed grant budgets and managed the grant reporting and follow-up processes. Newhouse offered my first opportunity to develop an annual grants plan and multi-year income projections. My co-workers were among the most caring and dedicated professionals I have ever known.

Taught "Grants 101" for UMKC's Communiversity, their community education program. Developed curriculum, produced PowerPoint presentations and written course materials.

I administered the grant writing and reporting process for foundation and corporate donors to the various schools and units at UMKC. This required working in tandem with the development team members to identify and apply to new funding sources, and advising faculty and staff regarding grant-related topics and issues, including staff training sessions. Maintained donor relations with foundation staff members. Established improved working relationships with the UMKC sponsored programs department.

As Communications Editor, I was responsible for assisting faculty and Development staff in preparing and submitting proposals for philanthropic gifts and national-level grants. I developed KUEA's grant routines, and taught writing, research and administration classes to staff members.
