Since I was very young, I’ve been passionate about helping others. Studying the brain in a class back in high school made me realize what I wanted to major in when I attended college; Psychology.I finished my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Mitchell College in December 2022.My past experiences include being a teacher’s assistant in 2015 and 2016, volunteering at Mainline Animal Rescue, being a camp counselor in 2018, volunteering at Columbia Animal Shelter, babysitting two cats for a neighbor, and being a Behavioral Health Technician. I love working with animals (specifically dogs) and children. For dogs, when I first meet them, I gently put out my hand to them and let them sniff me so they know I’m not there to hurt them, I’m here to help them, comfort them, and make sure they feel safe. To make sure, if they are comfortable, I will slowly sit down and get comfortable, and wait until they come to me. If they are not interested, all I do is talk to them (animals have feelings too). If I see one get comfortable with me, I will pet them until they have had enough. Animals bring me joy.For children, when working as a BHT, I would want to learn about their interests and how they communicate. I slowly learned what they liked, and what they disliked, made sure they were comfortable with me, worked with them, and most of all, had fun with them. It was a joyful experience working with individuals with autism. It opened my eyes more and get educated more about from myself and others around me.My skills include communication, problem-solving, organization, empathy, supporting others, stepping in if there is a problem, hard work, writing, and creativity.

Behavioral Health TechnicianAttain Aba Jul 2023 - Feb 2024United StatesWith my experience working as a BHT, I have learned a lot. I would go to my client’s school in the morning, engage, take data, make sure I focus most on my client. At home session, I would absolutely have fun and engage with my client, but I also would make sure we do some work and collect data. I’ve learned a lot with this job position and I know it will help me wherever my future takes me. -

VolunteerColumbia Animal Shelter Jun 2022 - Aug 2022Pennsylvania, United StatesI volunteered at Columbia Animal Shelter over the summer of 2022. I mostly worked with cats and kittens. As for tasks, it depends what time you arrive. If I arrived in the morning for 2 hours, I would have to clean the 4 levels for each of the cats that they live in (they have 4 levels instead of one tight space kennel). I would make sure the floor is swept and mopped. I would make sure the dishes are cleaned. If I arrived in the early afternoon, I would have to do the chores that has to be completed, like sanitizing all of the door knobs, cleaning the bathrooms/restocking, sweeping and mopping floors, do laundry, wash dishes (if needed). If we were completely finished with our tasks, then you were allowed to make connections with the cats and kittens.

Student InternReliance Health, Inc. Sep 2021 - Dec 2021I would set up a table in the morning with fresh coffee, creamer, sugar, stirrers, water, and snacks. I also would observe the morning and afternoon group therapy. Not only I would observe, there were times where I would jump in and talk about the topic with the group if I had anything to say. I would also help make lunches for the members and joined in for the afternoon group and communicated with the members. -
Dog WalkerMainline Animal Rescue Oct 2016 - Mar 2017Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, United StatesI would make sure to sign in when I arrived. I would make sure I grabbed a leash and bags for the dogs that I would walk. I was in the color blue stage which was the beginning stage. After searching for a dog that I was allowed to walk, I would make sure they were all set before we went outside. I would take them around a trail twice so they had exercise. Afterwards, I would either sit down with them somewhere, pet them, and talk to them or I would take them in a play area outside if it was available so they could get all of their energy out.
