About Anna Le Gouais
I am a researcher interested in improving built and green environments so that people can live healthier lives. This includes evaluating interventions that seek to change urban environments and tackle health inequalities. This is important because many people live in places that increase their risks of ill-health, such as noise and air quality problems, limited active travel options, and lack of quality neighbourhood greenspaces.I have expertise in mixed-methods research, understanding complex systems, qualitative methods, and evaluating natural experiments associated with the wider determinants of health. I have developed embedded researcher methodologies and health impact assessment approaches while working as a Researcher-in-Residence in local government. This also provided me with strong understanding of urban development decision-making processes, especially for regeneration projects and planning policy.I bring unique perspectives to academia from my multi-disciplinary background spanning civil engineering consultancy, international development (water, sanitation & hygiene), local government practice and public health research. My experiences living in different places in the UK and overseas also adds to my understanding of different environments, including in Shropshire, Cambridge, Bristol, Johannesburg (South Africa) and Mae Sot (Thailand), as well as extensive time in other places such as India and Benin.I would love to work on collaborative projects that support creation of healthier environments and tackle health inequalities. I am currently working on the TRUUD project: ‘Tackling the Root causes Upstream of Unhealthy Urban Development’ which develops and evaluates interventions for healthier large-scale urban development.
Listed skills include International Development, Water Supply, Sustainability, Water, and 8 others.
