Acting Director, Office Of Human Rights
Current- Responsible for enforcement of Federal, State, and local antidistrimination laws. - Supervise investigators, ADA Program Manager, interns, and administrative staff to ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations, production of timely, well-written, legally defensible, accurate investigative reports, grounded in high quality, up-to-date legal research and analysis, and alternative dispute resolution and targeted equitable relief to resolve both formal and informal complaints. - Compile and maintain data on trends in discrimination complaints and Office performance. - Provide staffing for the Alexandria Human Rights Commission. Attend Commission Executive Board and regular meetings to assist commissioners in developing work plans, provide guidance regarding City operations and programs, facilitate communication between commissioners and City Management, Deparment Heads, and community stakeholders, and ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations governing public commissions.- Research and draft legislative proposal and justification memo for ehnaced remedial authority for local human rights commissions in Virginia. - Lead effort to gather evidence on City LGBTQ+ inclusion efforts, for the Human Rights Campaign's Municipal Equality Index (MEI), resulting in a six-point score increase on the 2024 MEI.- Regularly advise and collaborate with other departments and community stakeholders regarding human rights issues, including fair housing testing, support for Afghan refugees, reasonable accommodation requests, lactation spaces in City facilitites, and healthy housing conditions. - Develop training for departmental communicators regarding reasonable accommodations in City programs, services, and facilities and create policy on inclusion of a reasonable accommodation statement in City communications and response to accommodation requests.
