Endangered species management through the control of introduced predators (primarily non-native rats, mongooses, and feral cats) via trapping to protect endangered birds, and the monitoring of endangered birds--Hawaiian Petrel and Hawaiian Goose--for nesting activity and production of young, including data entry and GIS mapping.

ADH Environmental provides a variety of environmental consulting services includingstormwater monitoring, sediment quality studies, oceanography, and database management. My responsibilities include assisting in the performance of storm water monitoring, testing and sampling programs.

Performance of field surveys and monitoring for special status species in the San Francisco Bay Area, including camera trapping and track plating, trapping, and preparation of technical reports. California tiger salamander trapping and handling, western burrowing owl monitoring and surveying, and nesting bird surveys.

Providing leadership for a large scale land cover surveying project being conducted by the North Atlantic Coastal Lab, including GIS analysis and plant species identification, for the purpose of characterizing land cover types and analyzing successional shifts in land cover across the park. The Cape Cod National Seashore provides environmental management for many land cover types, including forests, wetlands, and dunes, and in conducting these duties I have become familiar with a broad range of native plant species, as well as gaining experience leading others in the field.In addition to leading the land cover characterization project, I assist in water monitoring, including beach bacteria sampling, benthic invertebrate sampling and identification, and water sample analysis.

During my internship at JMC Inc., I assisted in the restoration of the Olympia Quarry in the Santa Cruz Mountains. I assisted in invasive species control programs, collected native species seeds, monitored the success of tree stakes as a method of restoring riparian areas, and applied experimental treatments to fire adapted species such as Ceanothus and Artostaphylos seeds in order to increase germination. Skills required for these tasks include the use of GPS, knowledge of native and invasive species, the application of liquid smoke and cold stratification to enhance germination, and seed collection techniques.

Assisting in the management of a conservation hatchery restoring threatened coastal salmonid species, including spawning adult individuals, fertilizing eggs, and other key components of the conservation & hatchery process.

My responsibilities include assisting principals in the production of biological and archaeological reports, as well as assisting staff with preparation of ongoing monitoring logs, summary reports, and processing of laboratory samples, photographic, and tabular data. In doing so, I have gained experience in the preparation and composition of NES and NES (mi) reports, as well as familiarity with state and federal regulations pertinent to environmental consulting (CEQA, NEPA, etc.). Projects which the company undertakes include biology, botanical, paleontology, and/or archaeological projects.In the course of my internship, I have conducted surveys for special status bird species such as burrowing owls, as well as surveys for California tiger salamanders.Additionally, I have assisted in archaeological site assessments, including shovel tests, unit excavation, and dirt screening, as well as data recording and documentation.

Assisting in research efforts focused on furthering the scientific understanding of White Nose Syndrome in bat populations and finding a solution. Tasks include collecting data on bat populations as well as reviewing the latest academic publications concerning WNS.

Field research assistant for a graduate student conducting research on bat activity in the California Central Coast, specifically comparing bat activity in simple and complex agricultural systems. This research was conducted for the purpose of quantifying the ecosystem services which bats provide for agricultural systems in the form of pest control.

Aiding in small mammal trapping at Ano Nuevo, including data collection, tagging, sample collection, and small mammal handling.
