Working for the Open Space and Mountain Parks Department to conduct visitation studies over 150 miles of trails throughout Boulder, Colorado. I lead recreation monitoring studies to understand visitor characteristics and behavior through the use of on-site surveys, automated trail and vehicle counters, and systematic observation. Our team helps the department make data-informed management decisions to provide high quality visitor experiences while protecting the lands that define Boulder.

Partnered with local NGO Ya’axche Conservation Trust to develop ecotourism initiatives that support livelihood development and raise revenue for natural resource management. Through this process I designed and implemented quantitative and qualitative research methods to measure local awareness, perceptions, and interests in tourism as well as capacity for tourism development.Specific tasks included:- Designing, implementing, and analyzing a mixed methods community survey- Conducting data analysis using SPSS software- Facilitating focus groups in Maya communities for men, women, and youth- Conducting literature reviews of studies and strategies involving tourism development, ecotourism, and community-based tourism. - Anticipated deliverables include a technical report, published paper, and conference presentation

Research Assistant for a project investigating the geography and evolution of land tenure and subsistence strategies. Responsibilities include reviewing literature, writing annotated bibliographies, and coding ethnographies.
