Farm HandBruce And Dee Hunt Aug 2015 - Nov 2015Rockhampton, AustraliaDuring travelling in and around Australia, I completed regional work in the form of a farm hand. Below are skills I acquired and used:• On the job learning was required and this involved not only learning new skills and adapting to a new environment but taking on board criticism and adapting and applying new skills to meet unexpected and changing circumstances.• I never worked hands on with animals before so specific routines and procedures that needed to be followed had to be learnt extremely quickly• Prioritising work load was essential for each section of the farm so all animals were fed, watered, rotated and had fresh bedding daily. • Positive work ethic was required to not only adapt to a new working environment but also to work very long days, constantly learn new skills and take on increased responsibilities over the three month period. • Each day was a new challenge that required me to focus and remain driven • Hands on approach – not scared to get stuck in and do my fair share in both the work and home life. I cooked for the family in the evening, helped to desensitise and mother newly birthed foals and was left to run the farm on my own.

Registered Dental Assistant, ReceptionistThe Cottage Dental Practice Oct 2012 - Dec 2014Sandbach, CheshireDuring this position I finished my training and worked within the surgery as a qualified Dental Nurse for two years. This role gave me high level of knowledge in cross contamination and treatment procedures. Forward planning allowed me to complete the days work but also identify and undertake any additional tasks that ensured the day ran to schedule.Skills Shown:• Identifying risks within the workplace was important as it could affect other team members and patients coming into the practice. This would then be brought to the attention of the practice manager and dealt with accordingly. • Pre-Planning the following days work meant that lab work and instruments that may be needed the next day were readily available. Checking the patient list meant it was possible to identify and prepare for any special requirements eg latex allergies.• Efficient time management and learning to prioritise meant that the day ran to schedule, patients were seen promptly and where appropriate, the most important cases were dealt with immediately. • Accuracy and attention to detail when working on reception as it involved the filing of dental records, completing payments, booking and managing appointments, and data inputting through the use of computer programmes within Microsoft Office and ‘Exact’ (dental specific). I was also given the added responsibility of balancing end of day receipts.• Communication skills were enhanced both in a written and a verbal sense, from greeting and meeting any individual needs of patients, booking appointments and interacting with patients of all ages within the surgery itself, whilst also writing patient notes in a clear and concise manner.
