In this position my job was to represent Sida externally and internally within the thematic area of peace and security. Tasks included policy development and dialogue, presentations, internal capacity-development, convening Sida's internal "human security hub", reviewing and developing new Technical Notes and briefs for Sida's Peace and Conflict Tool Box and contributing content to the development of an e-learning. Topics included peacebuilding, stabilisation, PVE (prevention of violent extremism), human security, delivering aid in politically constrained environments and conflict contexts, and the peace dimension of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus.

I coordinated the annual reporting on and managed contributions within the global strategy on human security. The strategy includes seventeen results, ranging from support to inclusive peace processes, strengthening national actors to prevent, manage and resolve violent conflicts by peaceful means, preventing sexual violence in conflict, preventing the recruitment and exploitation of children by armed forces and armed groups, decreasing the threat from mines, cluster munitions and explosive remnants for war, countering the proliferation of small arms and light weapons and strengthening transitional justice processes and rule of law in conflict.

Based at the Head Office of Diakonia, a Swedish development organization, I developed guidelines and methods for the organisation's work on peace-building and mainstreaming of conflict sensitivity. In close cooperation with regional and country offices in close to thirty countries, I assisted in developing strategies and programmes, and was often asked to facilitate or suggest capacity-building sessions for colleagues or partners. During this period, I also coordinated a research project on Conflict Dependent Actors in cooperation with other NGOs, academia and representatives of the corporate sector with case studies in Colombia, Myanmar/Burma, DRC, Israel and the oPt.In 2011 I did a feasibility study in South Sudan (two months) and developed a context analysis, strategies and security planning with partner organisations in Zimbabwe (three months).

Based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, I was responsible for supporting the Sri Lanka Country Programme and partners in carrying out conflict analysis, mainstreaming of strategies related to conflict transformation and peace building and strengthening the human rights and democracy work. My work included developing fund-raising strategies and project proposals for potential donors and to support the Sri Lanka Programme Manager (based in Kandy) to coordinate the running of the Colombo office.

As an independent consultant I carried out analyses and trainings in the thematic area of peace and conflict, including peacebuilding, conflict sensitivity, risk awareness and security planning.

As the Secretary General of the second largest peace organization in Sweden, I was responsible for the implementation of a strategic 3-year plan, finances and funding of all programmes, the management of 13 full-time and 15 - 20 part-time and contract staff, and the coordination of activities and programmes in Sweden and in international projects. The programmes included international preventive presence in selected conflicts in Mexico, Guatemala and Colombia, nonviolence trainings and peace education in Sweden and with partners in Sudan, Western Sahara and Latin America, joint projects with civil society networks and parliamentarians (in Sweden and internationally) on the issue of Small Arms and Light Weapons, and campaigning for an Arms Trade Treaty.

In close cooperation with the Collaborative for Development Action in Cambridge, Massachusetts, I coordinated Swedish NGO participation in its Reflecting on Peace Practice Project (RPP). RPP is an experience-based learning process that involves agencies whose programs attempt to prevent or mitigate violent conflict, and my work included conducting trainings and so called “feed-back workshops” in Sweden, the Philippines and Australia. On behalf of a network of over 30 Swedish NGOs, I conducted a study of NGO involvement in development projects aiming to promote peace. It resulted in a book that was later translated into English and published by Sida (Transforming Conflicts and Building Peace: Experience and Ideas of Swedish Civil Society Organisations,Sida Studies no. 13, 2005). During this time, I also coordinated Swedish NGO involvement in the international Local Capacities for Peace Project (“Do No Harm”, see http://cdacollaborative.org for more information).
