At Waters, I develop novel analytical tools for sample preparation and separation for both large and small molecules. By acting as the technical lead across interdisciplinary projects, I provide data-based insights to collaboratively design, develop, and test prototypes. Additionally, I strive to inspire the younger generation of scientists and engineers through active participation in STEM Outreach.

My research focused on developing biomedical diagnostics and devices across diverse disciplines. With my skill set ranging from culturing pathogens in a BSL-2 lab to photolithography and SEM, I was able to assist the Fraunhofer CMI team in a variety of projects. Some of my activities in lab include developing a whole blood sample preparation process for an assortment of downstream analysis techniques, microfluidic devices for identification of pathogens, and modifying the surface of micro- and nano- assemblies. I also trained the next generation of scientists as I advised and worked with student researchers at Fraunhofer CMI.

Most of my time at Fraunhofer CMI was devoted to developing biomedical sensors and diagnostics. In my main project, our multi-disciplinary team was focused on developing a platform to provide physicians a diagnostic for bacteremic patients to identify the causative pathogen in a timeframe useful for initial antibiotic prescription. My primary goal in this project was to develop a universal sample preparation process for whole blood, directly from the patient, for identification using techniques requiring viable, clean microorganisms. Additionally, I acted as a resource for biology-based engineering projects for industrial partners as well as a mentor for science and engineering students who were granted internships at Fraunhofer CMI.
