Grew membership to 1300+, located in all 50 US states and in 38 countries worldwide.This group experiences the disease very differently than the traditional patient who is diagnosed at age 65 years+.. There are a lot more considerations, like how to tell the kids, how to tell the family, how to balance working full time, how to stay healthy, what about financial planning in the future, and spousal and relationship issues.Prior to YOPN, relevant resources to support their experience did not exist, and support groups, with mostly, if not all, senior members were not helpful; in many cases creating a traumatic experience to see the visible debilitation in this older group. Furthermore, PD support groups, along with therapeutic classes and exercise programs designed for PD were inaccessible to this younger group as all met during the daytime, when most with YOPD were working.Young Onset Parkinson's Network provides a community of like aged members for all those diagnosed at age 55 or earlier and their loved ones. Online resources available 24/7, along with two gatherings per month, held via Zoom in the evenings after the typical work day, provide education, inspiration and a network to support all members in their quest to thrive far beyond their diagnosis.
