I want to continue working towards defeating cancer.My dissertation exemplifies the manipulation of the myeloid and lymphoid compartment via modulation of the adenosine pathway in combination with radiotherapy as a promising approach to facilitate anti-cancer immunity in brain metastasis, a cancer type refractory to most treatments (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.09.30.615883v1). Techniques: Maintenance of genetically modified mouse strains, tumor cell inoculation into the brain and the heart, follow up on tumor growth (magnetic resonance imaging, bioluminescence imaging), mouse treatment (intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, application of whole brain radiation therapy), mouse monitoring for survival, intracardiac mouse perfusion and organ isolation, preparation of brain, blood and spleen for flow cytometry analysis and sorting, immunohistochemistry, DNA/RNA/protein isolation, mouse genotyping, cytokine analysis, Western blotting, cDNA conversion and qRT-PCR, cloning, bacterial transformation, transfection and transduction of cells, titration and concentration of viral stocks, cell culture and passaging and cryopreservation of primary cell lines (derived from brain, bone and blood) and immortalized cell lines, production of viral particles and genetically modified cell lines, proliferation and clonogenic assays. Supervisory skills developed through supporting 2 student assistants and 1 master student.My involvement as Cancer Director of Open Box Science, a US-based non-profit organisation that provides early career researchers the opportunity to present their work and moderate scientific webinars, enables me to be up to date with the scientific literature and to interact with researchers from different disciplines.Probably because of my background (1st generation student and from a rural area in Spain), I am aware of the need to share science to a broader audience, which I do through Skype A Scientist and similar initiatives from ASEICA (the Spanish Association for Cancer Research) and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology/fcri to promote the raise of future research generations. Similarly, I also write to a broader community about scientific discoveries and about bone marrow donation. In the iniatitive 11Febrero (WomenInScience) I contribute to the generation of social media content and of interviews.
