Anna did her practicum for her master's degree with IWMI as part the Challenge Program on Water and Food (CPWF), a project of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). CPWF is a multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary research for development program that develops water-related innovations to reduce poverty, improve food security, strengthen rural livelihoods, and maintain ecosystems services.In 2012 she worked on the Nile River Basin Development Challenge, based out of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Here, she designed and carried out qualitative research on water management technology adoption with farmers in the Ethiopian Highlands. In 2013 she worked on the Volta Basin Development Challenge, based out of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, conducting an assessment of how innovation platforms impact agricultural development through integrated rainwater management the use of small reservoirs, using a basin-wide rainwater management framework.

Ms. Tarrant started at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF as an intern for UNICEF Enterprise, a new campaign targeted at fundraising among small- and medium-sized businesses. In this role, she developed 12 criteria for identifying potential donors. She was responsible for writing and submitting grant proposals to business partners. After excelling in this role, she was hired as the temporary Development Coordinator, responsible for all logistical functions of the office: recruiting and supervising interns, and being the primary point-person in Atlanta for logistics of UNICEF Experience, an interactive event for donors that simulates a field visit and has raised over $1.5 million for UNICEF between two cities over the past three years.

Anna served as an intern with the Carter Center's Human Rights Project, working specifically on issues in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This project works to protect human rights defenders, strengthen international human rights systems, and advance human rights at the grassroots level by strengthening in-country civil society organizations. Anna produced three key outputs in her role. She created website content using Ushahidi crowd-sourcing technology to monitor industrial mining activity in DRC. She researched and produced a report that gave an overview of human rights defender "protection cells" around the world and made suggestions about how to create such a cell in DRC. Lastly, she translated publications, proposals, and government documents from French to English.
