Language is at the heart of everything I do. Whether building an experience, a craft, or a multi-disciplinary team—words matter, and I use them to create sense and structure for projects and teams. 12+ years as a writer, content strategist, content designer, and leader of disciplines and teams have given me the context and perspective to see the forest, the trees, and the leaves. Shapeshifting, I’ve moved between lead and individual contributor work, not only in my career, but also, sometimes, in the same day (such is tech!). I enjoy being part of a Big Picture, whether from a craft, team, or business perspective. That could mean writing a style guide or a new employee onboarding guide; it might mean running a team health check or figuring out how to scale our skills across an organization; perhaps it’s dismantling a user journey or redesigning a website.My approach to leadership is high care and high trust; I want folx to feel like they're truly part of the fabric of the team. I do this by creating the environment to help them do their best work—I remove obstacles, make connections on the team's behalf, and protect their time. I do this by prioritizing growth, development, and self reflection—putting individuals in the driver's seat of their own career journeys.No Ann is an island, and I’ve had the great luck and privilege to work with marketers, designers, developers, strategists, and product managers to deliver projects and build teams. It’s true, Virginia, team work makes the dream work. In a past life I was a poet, which explains my obsession with editing things to within an inch of their lives, punctuation, and finding exactly the right word.
