Editing, writing, research, and program management for individuals and organizations. I have been a program developer, writer, editor and researcher on dozens of projects during 20+ years of full-time and consultant work. This has included proposals, white papers, reports, needs assessments, strategic plans, workplans, assessments, and evaluations, web copy, social media posts, policy analyses, articles, and more. These have often focused on the nonprofit sector and concerned health education/workforce issues, equity, disability issues, system and policy reform, service integration, public health emergencies, health risk behavior, and more. They enhanced the health status of diverse populations while facilitating access to services.Sample outcomes: • The editing and writing of multiple grant proposals for a nonprofit exposed students to new career pathways and enhanced the health of migrant workers. Other projects boosted health access for East African immigrants and oral health education and enhanced care in an underserved rural community. My writing of a capstone report for a foundation resulted in the release of $160K of funding to a school health coalition. Since 2007, I have written or collaborated on grants totaling about $5 million, and I estimate my career total at more than $15 million.• I wrote/co-wrote and researched two chapters of a volume (The Teaching Hospital, McGraw-Hill) describing the internal and external community relationships of Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital. These and associated reports enhanced understanding of teaching hospital culture and health equity issues.• My work as a writer/editor and researcher on an evaluation team assessed public health quality improvement nationwide. Our findings informed health department accreditation processes nationwide.• I edited white papers on medical marijuana and the state health laboratory for the Maine State Legislature. These insights informed statewide policy and funding.

Along with my other work, I have aided hundreds of US and international clients to achieve their goals by providing proofreading and copy-editing services for English and ESL scholarly articles, reports, personal statements, letters of reference, resumes, job applications, and more. I now provide these services independently. I am familiar with APA, Chicago, MLA, Harvard, NLM, ACM, and other academic styles and US and British English writing conventions.

I created, researched, and managed a consumer-focused, evidence-based educational website on adult-onset hearing loss. I also wrote and edited a consumer eBook (Consumer Report: How to Thrive with Adult-Onset Hearing Loss), blog posts, web copy, and Facebook posts for the site, which I administered for four years. This enhanced the awareness of hearing loss as a public health issue optimally addressed by a holistic educational approach.

I coordinated projects on health professions education, insurance reform, aging and public health, primary care/pediatric behavioral health, opiate overdose strategic planning, emergency preparedness, health leadership, and other issues. I researched, wrote, and edited grant proposals, reapplications, progress and grant reports, website materials, curricula, internship guides, assignment guidelines, and preceptor materials. I created educational resources, agendas, summaries, and evaluation materials with partners for conferences and web courses and developed Maine's first statewide Aging and Public Health conference. For a workforce center at Harvard School of Public Health, I developed web courses on aging and emergency preparedness and aging and public health.I wrote policy white papers and conducted needs assessments for a health insurance reform task force. I led the processes for (interviewing, focus groups, and integration of quantitative data) and wrote and disseminated the findings of two statewide strategic plans.These projects resulted in the establishment of collaborative, evidence-driven health policy and educational initiatives based on effective written communication products, thus enhancing the health of the people of Maine and access to needed services.

Communications, program management, and research assistance to nonprofitsResearched (interviewing and focus groups), conducted process for and wrote/edited statewide opiate overdose prevention strategic plan and an evaluation report for a statewide foundation. Also wrote company histories, white papers, reports, and proposals.

Among other duties, I managed these projects: Partnership for A Tobacco-Free Maine (PTM.) Network Initiative, the Coalition for Smoking OR Health, and the Maine Turning Point Project (system planning/reform). I was also Acting Executive Director of the Maine Center for Public Health.

Prior to the MCD position, I was Associate Director of a medical quality improvement foundation for four years.
