Anne E. Cunningham, Professor in Learning Sciences and Human Development at the Berkeley School of Education, University of California, Berkeley. Known for her research on literacy and development across the life span, she examines the cognitive and motivational processes underlying reading ability and the interplay of context, development, and literacy instruction. Dr. Cunningham is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association and American Psychological Association. She has been awarded several prestigious research fellowships from the National Academy of Education and National Science Foundation. She recently served as principal investigator of Teacher Quality: The Role of Teacher Study Groups as a Model of Professional Development in Early Literacy for Preschool Teachers, funded by the US Department of Education: Institute of Educational Studies. She has served on several expert panels for literacy initiatives, which include the National Early Literacy Panel, CA Multitudes Dyslexia Screening Advisory Panel, chairing the California Literacy and Language Preschool Foundations Panel and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) in the development of the statewide Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) for California Multi-subject K-8 teachers.Dr. Cunningham serves as an adviser to many educational and technology companies in the field of early learning and literacy. She is currently on the Advisory Board of several start up companies: Kinoo a new smart device that gets young children moving, learning, and playing. Novel Effect employs voice technology to create innovative and immersive story-based experiences. Senior Author on HMH Preschool Curriculum Big Day, HMH's K-2 Literacy Technology program iRead and HMH's new technology adaptive learning program for literacy practice Waggle! Among the technology and toy industry, Anne was a founding member of Leapfrog Enterprises Educational Advisory Board for over a decade from 1999-2011.
