Program CoordinatorRobert M. Buchan Department Of Mining, Queen'S University Apr 2012 - Dec 2016Kingston OnThe Graduate Diploma in Social Performance Management replaces the (now closed) certificate program in Community Relations for the Extractive Industries (GCCR).The revised program addresses current and evolving conditions for both industry and communities affected by mineral resource projects (from exploration to extraction and processing to transport) conditions and concerns as well as industry needs, community challenges and the political realities of North America. The new curriculum has been developed in consultation with community relations and sustainability experts from industry, Aboriginal advisors, as well as leading thinkers and practitioners.Exploration, mining, oil and gas companies working in Canada, the US, and abroad face the challenge of building constructive and mutually beneficial working and living relationships with communities affected by their activities and operations. This program is designed to help participants develop a knowledge and appreciation of the diversity of values and perspectives that meet when a project is proposed, and as importantly, to develop the skills needed to build and resilient and mutually beneficial relationships across cultures. The revised program now features a course in Social Performance Metrics, equipping students with the skills required to create metrics that correlate social investments with company performance, enabling companies and communities to identify opportunities to create shared value. The program, which launches in January 2017, is offered entirely online on a part-time basis. It accepts applicants who hold an acceptable (See Queen's School of Graduate Studies Admissions) bachelor's degree in any discipline. Applicants who hold a bachelor's degree in engineering or any of the sciences, may be eligible to use the Diploma as a ladder to an M.Eng. degree (by taking another four courses). -

Technical EditorCentre For Excellence In Mining Innovation Dec 2009 - Sep 2010Edited for electronic publication, a series of technical articles that captured the unique expertise of of experienced mining engineers. The rationale for the project was to aggregate the lessons learned over many lifetimes of on-the-job experience, in order to supplement and contextualize the standard or best practice presented in textbooks to student engineers.
