I started out as a teacher, beginning with children, and then branching out to adults. I spent 8 years working in marketing & fundraising at the Atholl Centre & realised how many of the skills I have acquired over my lifetime are transferable: creativity, research, analysis, matching the product to the person, and I have also realised how much I enjoy learning new skills, from learning how to communicate through website & social media to the importance of networking and developing good working relationships. My ability to adapt and think on my feet has stood me in good stead for my work in fundraising at Street Connect, also helping to develop strategies & communications since I've been here. It's an exciting place to work and there is always something new to deal with in this fast growing charity.

FundraiserStreet Connect Mar 2017 - PresentGlasgow, ScotlandI am currently working part time as a Trusts and Grants fundraiser but started out as 1 of 2 fundraisers with a wider brief, helping with strategies and communications over the first 2 years. Our fundraising team has grown significantly since I started so we each have more specific than general tasks now, but meet regularly to pool our knowledge and explore new advances together.My current brief includes a lot of reporting and relationship building, liaising with many team members & interpreting statistics and surveys to secure information and keep us on track with grant promises, as well as exploring new sources of revenue and supporting others to apply for grants.

Primary Teaching SupplyPerth & Kinross Council Mar 1999 - Feb 2001I filled in for teachers who were absent either through illness or doing courses. I taught all age groups from nursery to P7 & even had a couple of days in a Gaelic medium unit, where I learned some new words! The work was mostly in Perth but I also got some rural experience, including being the sole teacher in Struan Primary for a couple of days. -
Education WorkBms World Mission, Brazil Aug 1986 - May 1991I worked at a church run after school club - very different from what we have here. In Brazil kids go to school either in the morning, the afternoon or the evening, so after school was all day & I helped to design the teaching programme for 3 broad age groups, with the younger ones learning personal hygiene & basic literacy, the middle age group (official school starts at 7 yrs & all of the teaching was done by rote, so many kids struggled to understand what they were being taught) getting help with their schoolwork, & the older ones being taught employment skills. I also ran an adult literacy class for parents and grandparents and a group dynamics course for both church workers and development workers.
