I applied wet chemistry techniques to process soil and water samples for pH, electrical conductance, alkalinity, salinity, and nutrients. I also supported colleagues in sample preparation for additional lab tests on an as needed basis.

I investigated coastal oxygen and nutrient dynamics in the Southern Benguela Upwelling System with an international collaborative team at University of Cape Town using computational methods. Through this project, I have learned to set-up and run physical-biogeochemical coupled models on a high performance computing platform. I have used Matlab, Python, and R to analyze and visualize both observational and model output data. I have communicated these results in several conference presentations including one webinar. The recorded webinar presentation is available on the Global Ocean Oxygen Network's YouTube channel. I served as the Graduate Student Organization Secretary during my second year at UConn and was part of JEDI efforts during my time at UConn. I participated in the PICES Summer School on Ocean Big Data from August 8th - 19th, 2022.

As part of placement site responsibilities at Redwood National and State Parks: I conducted routine maintenance of hydrological instruments including Axiom data loggers and ISCO auto-samplers. Completed bi-weekly data collection for discharge and water quality monitoring. Uploaded and processed data in Aquarius and assisted on park projects as needed including riparian zone delineation. As part of WSP responsibilities: completed national service days, taught environmental science to elementary students as it pertains to watersheds and salmon species in California, and planned a public restoration event.

Maintained and calibrated atmospheric monitoring instruments, launched Ozone balloons, and recorded data.

Processed student accommodation requests, instructed us of LiveScribe Smart Pens, created employee schedules and transported students with physical disabilities to classes.

Assisted faculty and instructed students on station protocols and use of equipment such as Phytoplankton and Zooplankton nets, Secci Disks, CTDs, Niskin Bottles, Shipek Grab, and Smith McIntyre Grab. I accrued 150 hours of at sea time aboard the R/V Coral Sea.

Graded weekly general oceanography class labs for four sections of 20-25 students with attention to detail.

As part of this position, I certified fishers catches for compliance with quality control standards for the Sockeye Salmon Fishery. This involved working directly with fishers and tender crew members to collect samples of fish to check for temperature and bleeding standard compliance. This job also required being in close quarters with up to 6 other people which required strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution ability.

This award provided two years of academic support and a ten week internship during the summer of 2018. The internship was with the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve in Dover, DE where I performed method development and field sampling for carbon stock assessment. Samples were analyzed for dry bulk density, sediment grain size, and organic carbon content. Additional experience in other reserve projects included Horseshoe Crab, Nekton, and Marsh Bird surveys.

Assisted in the collection of cross-sectional and longitudinal channel depth data using a total station and prism pole on the Salt River Ecosystem Restoration Project.

Prepared reagents, metals, and nutrient samples for analysis. Performed and reported turbidity, pH, and specific conductance tests, and recorded data into LIMS system. Assisted in Total Suspended Solids, Total Dissolved Solids, and alkalinity analysis.
