I primarily help clients deal with the 2 certainties in life...death and taxes! My practice is focused on creative estate planning (personal estate planning and corporate planning) and business law (practical advice for business owners). I am a"tax-savvy" lawyer and I work with clients and their advisors in a team-based approach to design and implement creative personal planning and corporate planning structures (including succession planning and tax driven reorganizations) that create value for clients in a cost-effective manner. My discussions with clients and their advisors almost invariably will include a very practical cost-benefit analysis of the planning options available. For example, weighing the advantages, benefits and tax savings that can be gained vs. the costs of implementation, the future costs and added administrative complexity that will need to be dealt with. Sometimes, the end result of one of these practical cost-benefit analyses is that I end up "talking ourselves out of work" but I am happy to do so as it is in the best interests of the client.I speak Mandarin and can understand Taiwanese, having immigrated with my family from Taiwan to Toronto at the age of 5. We survived four cold winters in Toronto before deciding to relocate to the more temperate climate of the West Coast.
