About Anthony Ashton

Our research program seeks to understand the role of alternate splicing (and the structurally diverse proteins it creates) in the pathogenesis of disease. Due to the essential nature of these changes we have found applications for this research in a wide variety of maladies including cancer, cardiovascular disease, reproduction, asthma and ageing. Our program employs techniques from recombinant protein production to cell culture and in vivo models to assess the roles of these proteins and how changes in splicing manifest disease.Specifically our areas of interest are: ● Molecular regulation of Angiogenesis ● Role of cell death processes, and the shared pathogenesis of, osteoarthritis and heart failure ● Placentation and pathologies of pregnancy ● Cancer initiation and the Stromal Response to Cancer ● Role of small, non-protein based mediators (including eicosanoids) in the pathophysiology of
