I worked with a large number of people of varying levels within the company and had to be persuasive and confident about my views in order to help deliver a safe and ergonomically sound system.Lever Weight Assessment: I established a risk assessment process for the lever pulling in signal boxes, whilst establishing safe limits for the weight that can be pulled by signallers. This has been the first work of its kind within the railway and has established high level support within the company and will lead to a long term improvement plan, with an agreed investment budget, for the lever boxes that fall out side of the acceptable limits.Re-signalling projects: I worked on numerous smaller re-signalling projects that required me to work on my own and also to quickly establish working relationships with the team in order to influence the design and the project decisions. The smaller projects require a disciplined approach and the ability to communicate effectively and establish relationships quickly as you are not based with the project team on a full time basis. For the first time we were able to drive change in the CAD stage rather than once prototypes were being built and so with little cost effect.Key Ergonomics skills:• Anthropometrics• Design for assembly • Design for safety• Design for quality• CAD / 'Jack' skills for carrying out virtual ergonomic assessments.
